Desktop Client Installation on Windows Server

Starting with Windows Server 2008, Microsoft introduced a new feature called the Windows Installer Coordinator allowing parallel installation of applications. However, sometimes this feature can run into a bug and the installation will not finish properly. 

For example, you could see this error:

Fatal Error: VBA Initialization Failure - -2147221164

In order to fix this, the remote desktop server compatibility for the Windows Installer has to be deactivated. It can be found here:

Computer configuration → Guidelines → Administrative templates → Windows components → Remotedesktop Services → Remotedesktop session host → Application compatibility

Having set it, the server should be restarted
