Desktop Client: OrgCharter error about duplicates on import with fields greater than 9 digits

If you attempt to import records into an OrgChart, and the ID field contains greater than 9 digits, you may receive the following error:

Cannot generate an org chart. The Associate ID data contains duplicates.

There is a limit of 9 digits for the ID of the record being imported. Please ensure all ID's are 9 digits or less.
